Livescore Andrew Shovlin: Mercedes still has a big problem - the car`s behavior changes dramatically from session to session

Mercedes spoke about the plan for updating the car in the coming races.

Mercedes chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin assessed the car`s performance at the Miami Grand Prix, where the German team used the first part of a major upgrade package.

According to Shovlin, new products will appear over the next few Grands Prix, and the main task of Mercedes remains to eliminate the problem with the unstable behavior of the car.

We accelerated the development process of the car and were able to bring some parts from the planned upgrade package already to the Miami Grand Prix. Basically we are talking about the updated design of the bottom of the car. The second part of this update package will be ready for the Imola round.

According to the data received by the team, the underbody works exactly as we expected. The only problem is that other teams are also developing quickly. For example, McLaren brought a lot of new products to the Miami stage.

The other problem is that Lewis Hamilton`s and George Russell`s difficulties with driving the car overshadow the true potential of these new products.

We still have a very big problem - it is that from session to session the behavior of the machine changes dramatically. And until we sort this problem out, it will be difficult for us to fully exploit the potential of the latest innovations.

We feel like we`ve made progress over the last few weeks and have a better understanding of exactly what we need to do with our car to make life easier for our riders. In the next 3-4 races we will have many new products, and we hope that this work will soon bear fruit, " said Shovlin.
