Lawyers are defending Messi

The lawyers of Lionel Messi are trying to prove to the Court that he was not familiar with the tax problems that led to the charges of fraud against him. The trial of Messi and his father Jorge is for tax evasion. Witnesses called to testify on the second day of the trial, said that Messi knew little about the corporate structures that authorities have been created to reduce the tax burden of the soccer player in Spain. Witnesses said, however, that Messi was signing documents, his father actually is responsible for the business of the player off the field. The meeting lasted more than four hours as seven witnesses were heard. The Argentinian is expected to face court on Thursday to give testimony. He is currently in the United States, where Argentina is preparing for participation in the Copa America. The 28-year-old Messi and his father Jorge are accused of three tax offences. Against them, it is brought up on charges for being withholding taxes in the amount of 2.5 million euros.
