Soccer mobile livescore F1 technical director: The problem of galloping would have been solved without the intervention of the FIA

Pat Symonds believes the FIA may not have addressed the galloping issue.

As the 2022 season progressed, the Federation began to control vertical oscillations - before that, Mercedes had particularly serious problems at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. According to Symonds, this was not necessary. In addition, in 2023, the requirements for the bottom will change.

I think the reaction after Baku was unnecessary. In Baku, the effect was greatest, because the work of one team did not work, and it spoke out quite loudly in the press. Without intervention, the problem would also have been solved. Most of the teams now understand how to control galloping, said the technical director of Formula 1.

Symonds admitted that F1 could have foreseen this problem when it created the technical regulations for 2022:

I have to admit, we didn`t expect it either. And they should have. We had tools to predict this behavior because we used dynamic simulations. I also should have known because I worked on ground effect cars. I just forgot.

No doubt galloping contributes. Teams have to solve the problem before working on aerodynamics. Bouncing is not just an aerodynamic problem, it also affects the mechanics - for example, the stiffness of the suspension.
