De Gea holds United in chess

The Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is not in a hurry to renew his contract with the club, and may not do so at all. According to The Telegraph, a meeting between his agent, Jorge Mendes and the Red Devils, was held in London last Friday to discuss the extension of the Spanish national contract, but the two sides have not reached an agreement. The present deal of De Gea is until the summer of 2019, but Old Trafford attempts to keep it for the longest period. So far, the club`s efforts have not worked, and the cause is not financial. De Gea is not convinced that United will have the strength to fight for trophies on the domestic scene as well as in Europe.

If the Spaniard finally refuses to sign a new contract, United will have to sell it so he will not risk losing him as a free agent. It should be noted that the English Grand has an option to extend De Gea`s contract by 2020, but that will not change much if the guard himself decides he wants to leave. De Gea is on Old Trafford since 2011, when he was drawn from Atletico Madrid. He already has over 300 Red Devils.
